why Chandragupta Maurya and Bindusara were not able to capture the place Kalinga

Answer:
Explanation:
here is considerable doubt on whether Chandragupta Maurya ruled Kalinga or not. It is certain from Kharavela’s Hathigumpha inscriptions that the Nandas had annexed Kalinga into the Magadhan empire. But after the Nandas were overthrown by the machinations of the teacher and the pupil, Kalinga is believed to have ascertained their independence. That is why Ashoka is said to have waged war on Kalinga to bring the kingdom back into the Magadhan fold.
An alternate presentation of facts is that Kalinga was under the yoke of the Mauryas but they rebelled when it became clear that Ashoka would be laying claim to the title of Emperor.
As to Chandragupta Maurya, most historians (amateur and professional) are of the opinion that his Empire stretched from the western borders of current Afghanistan to present-day Bihar or Bengal. Seldom are Kalinga and the Deccan included. The conquest of the Deccan and southern India is ascribed to either Bindusara or Ashoka.
