Parenchyma is a type of plant tissue that comes under Simple permanent tissues ; i.e the tissues that do not divide.

Parenchyma when consist of chlorophyll it is known as chlorenchyma and it is necessary for the production of food by the process of photosynthesis by the plants.

Hence the most important function of chlorenchyma is trapping sunlight and helping the plant in photosynthesis.

Supplementary information :

  • Photosynthesis is the process by which plants make their own food with the help of sunlight , water and minerals .

  • Plant tissues are divided on the basis of their ability to divide into Meristematic and Permanent .

  • Each type of tissue has its own function like meristematic tissues help in the growth and elongation while permanent tissue help in protecting.
