Why chlorine at anode and hydrogen at cathode?

chlorine is cation & hydrogen is anion

Answer:

anode is positive and cathode is negative. unlike charges always attract to each other.Cl is -ve and anode is+ve because they have unlike charges so, chlorine at anode. similarly same thing happens with hydrogen.
