after the process of meiosis the no. of chromosomes in each gamete is halved , fertilisation restores the no. of chromosomes in any species but haploid organisms mitosis occurs before the formation of the gametes in these organisms zygotic meiosis occurs to ensure the haploidy of the organism.

if meiosis does not occurs in any organism then it will lead to to the doubling of chromosomes at each fertilization therefore meiosis is an important process occurring in all individuals except a few.
