Why CO2 is gas but SiO2 is solid ?

Hii friend,

Here is your answer....

>>CO2 is a gas while SiO2 is a solid.

Reasons:-

>>This is because carbon has absence of d-orbitals so that it can't able to expand its octet beyond 4.

And also it forms stable double bond with oxygen ,so that it doesn't share it bond with any other atom and it exist independently as gas.

>>In SiO2 ,it has vacant d-orbitals and because of single bond formation with oxygen it forms a chain like compounds with oxygen as given in the image.

:-SiO2 exists as solid.
