Why coal and charcoal do not give off flame while burning?

the coal and charcoal to not give of film because carbon present in it not burn completely so it produce flame and a smoke

We all must have seen a burning candle and found that it burns with a flame giving out heat and light. ... The substances which vaporize during burning give flames. For example combustion of kerosene oil produces flame. On the other hand certain substances like coal do not vaporize and hence doesn't produce a flame.
