Cobalt is written as Co and not as CO because CO means carbon monoxide

Because the IUPAC made a rule of representing elements in symbols in a particular way such that the element can be written as a letter or 2letters for example:berilium as Be and carbon as C and oxygen as O. As per given case cobalt symbol Co is correct as CO implies carbon monoxide which is a gaseous compound
