Why colour of hair becomes white at old age?

poornaverma02: As we get older, the pigment cells in our hair follicles gradually die. When there are fewer pigment cells in a hair follicle, that strand of hair will no longer contain as much melanin and will become a more transparent color — like gray, silver, or white — as it grows
lakhipriyadas1: Is melanin a chemical
poornaverma02: i think its a pigment
lakhipriyadas1: Okk thnx

Our hairs starts becoming white in old age because our skin of hair stops to produce "Melanin" a substance that keeps our colour of hair black.
Hope this helps you.........☺

If the production of the pigments called Melanocytes is less then the colour of the hair changes white.Sometimes stress also causes change in colour of hair.
THANK YOU...
