Heya Friend !!!
Here's ur answer :-
• Common indicators doesn't give specific color in specific solution. Because of this it can't be used as to find pH value of a solution. They only can determine the nature of the Solution that either the solution is acidic , basic or neutral.
For E.g.
° A red litmus which is a common indicator when dipped in basic solution turn blue referring that the solution is basic.
But the strength of the Solution can't be determined.
° A blue litmus turn red if the solution is acidic but it can't determine the strength of the Solution.
° Phenolphthalein turn pink in colour when base is add in it but doesn't effect with acids.
By this we can determine that the solution is either acidic or basic but can't determine the strength of the Solution.
Conclusion :- Common indicators can't determine the strength of the Solution.

Answer:
Some common indicators, like litmus paper, methyl orange, phenolphthalein etc. just change their color or some olfactory indicators just change their smell in acidic or base medium which shows the presence of a base or an acid but they are the chemical compounds which do not have any scale to find out the exact pH value, and for that we need a pH indicator universal scale.

Hope it helps ! :)
