Hi...here is your answer....
Compounding is a process of reducing the speed of the turbine. If whole steam is only passes through single blade then the speed will be around 30000 rpm which increases vibration and will lead to failure. So to control the speed of turbine it is passed through series of blades thereby reducing the speed and increasing safety of turbine.
Hence compounding of steam turbines are done.
