Excess heat is rejected to the room, and the gas condenses to a liquid in the condenser. When the liquid enters the evaporator, it transitions to a much lower pressure, which causes it to expand and boil as it collects heat from the food compartment. The low pressure, low temperature gas then returns to the compressor.
