Monocots are the flowering plants that come up with seed that normally contain one of the embryonic lead or a cotyledon.

There is a total of 60,000 species of monocots which includes grains, forage grasses, bamboos and sugarcane.

Hence, the corn and rice also fall under this category since they have seed within.
