Because after miriam left him he was all alone in memories of her then he started realising the pain and suffering animals whose family members he has killed. so after that he was not getting any joy in hunting.

He was suffering the agony and pain of separation with her daughter who had married with a solider in a punjab regiment and he had not got any message of hers during a long period of 5 years moreover Ali was not young now as before his visual power was becoming less and he was not energetic as before. Due to this he lost his interest in hunting.
