Why could you not use an elastic measuring tape to measure distance?

Elastic tapes have a tendency to stretch. This stretching property of the elastic tape makes it more prone to faults in measurements.

Hence , we couldn't measure distance from elastic measuring tapes.

Instead , non elastic tapes are more accurate.
