The central idea of the poem is that In our life at some point we have to choose a path on which our whole future will be depend.

He can't travel both the way because the that he will choose will open up to a new choice of roads and there are very less chance that he will come back to the same road on which he had been standing now.

For example, you have to choose one of the streams after 10 and then that stream will open up to new paths like if you would choose Ug course or prepare for any government job further.
