Why couldn't the wedding guest attend the wedding in ancient mariner?

The wedding guest wanted to join the wedding ceremony but couldn't do so. He got influenced by the Ancient Mariner. At first, the wedding guest didn't wanted to hear what the Ancient Mariner wanted to say him as he wanted to attend the wedding as he was next to kin.
