Heya,
-» A covalent bond is formed by the overlap of half- filled atomic orbitals which have definite directions. Hence covalent bond is directional.
-» In ionic compounds, each ion is surrounded by a number of oppositely charged ions and hence there is no definite direction.

Explanation:
Covalent bonds are defined as the bonds formed due to sharing of electrons. A covalent bond requires specific orientation or we can say that they bond through overlapping of atomic orbitals.
And, usually there are only few patterns of overlap and spatial arrangements are possible. Hence, they form bond in a particular direction.
Therefore, covalent bonds are directional in nature.
On the other hand, an ionic bond is formed by the transfer of electrons from one atom to another.
Since, a positive ion is attracted by a negation ion or vice a versa. Therefore, force of attraction occurs from both the sides. Hence, ionic bonds are non-directional in nature.
