After hockey took a down slide at the international stage. And after the likes of Major Dhyanchand, Dhanraj Pillay and many others stepped out of the hockey scene, there was only one sport in India which the nation connected with - Cricket. Specially because of the triumph of 1983 World Cup victory. Which nobody thought was even possible at that time. But with Kapil Dev and team making it historic, cricket was famous.
