[CrO4] 2- ion is a stronger oxidising agent as compared to [MnO4] 2- , though both cr and mn are in the same oxidation state +6(x-4*2=-2,x=+6) as-Cr -EC(electronic configuration) is [Ar]4s2 3d4 (atomic no.24)Cr+6 -EC is [Ar] which is stable…so Cr readily loses its six electrons to attain the stable noble gas configuration(reducing itself) acting as a strong oxidising agent.
