Because crocodiles because crocodiles have all other features of reptiles like they have dry scaly skin , they lay eggs, and are cold blooded animals. therefore though they have four chambered heart unlike other reptiles, they are considered as reptiles only.

Welll… Reptilians have 3 chamfered heart : 2 auricles and 1 ventricle. In them the oxygenated and the deoxygenated blood gets mixed up in the ventricle which reduces the efficiency of the circulatory system. .

During the course of evolution the need for well separated and more efficient circulatory system was felt due to energy expenditure..

So the crocodiles and other species of their order CROCODILIANS (alligator and gharial/ Gavialis) developed a four chamfered heart with 2 auricles and 2 ventricles so that the pure and the impure blood is kept separated throughout the body and the heart. ..

Birds and mammals also have a four chambered heart which proves that birds and all mammals evolved from reptiles. .

Hope it helps you. ..
