Plasma monitors are power hungry devices 2 - 3 times more than a CRT monitor making this technology unfit for use in portable devices like laptop computers where batteries are used as the power source. Plasma monitors are extremely susceptible to screen burn.

CRT and Plasma are not used in laptops because of the following reasons:
- Plasma monitors require a lot of power. This technology is unsuitable for use in portable devices like laptop computers where batteries are used as the power source because it costs 2 to 3 times more than a CRT monitor. Screen burn is extremely prone to occur on plasma monitors.
- Due to the significant financial and practical benefits of flat-screen display technology, most people no longer use CRTs. In general, flat-screen displays are less expensive to produce than CRT displays and use less electricity and generate less heat.
- In order to accommodate the neck of the tube, which houses the electron gun and is encircled by heavy copper deflection coils, a CRT display is typically at least one foot deep. The face of the tube is made of thick leaded glass to protect you from the x-rays the tube emits.
