Why cu has 2 valancies and why we always use its 1 valancy?

cu has 2 valancies but we don't use its 1 valancy always becoz it's valency 1 is found in almost very rare situation whereas it's valency 2 is most certain and common form.
so maintain the certainty of the valency we use cu 2+
