why d-block element are colored

D block elements, have  electrons filled in d orbitals.  Most of the elements have  partially filled orbitals (by electrons.).  

so unpaired electrons get excited and go to higher orbitals and then release energy and return.  This happens continuously.

so the energy gaps in them correspond to the wavelengths of colors. so they are colored.
