Their properties are transitional between highly reactive metallic elements of s-block which are typically ionic compounds and the elements of p-block, which are largely covalent. The transition elements have an incomplete filled d-shell. Zn, Cd and Hg have d^10 configuration i.e. the d shell is complete. The compounds of these elements are not typical and show some difference from others
