Dark phase of photosynthesis is called light independent phase as it doesn't require light for the reaction...hence it is called light independent phase as it doesn't depend on light ...

The old terms "dark phase" did not mean that it occurs when it is dark I. e. At night. It only means that the reaction are not dependent on night . That is why , it is now better to call it " light independent phase".
