Dengue fever is a viral infection spread by Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquitoes that may first be suspected if someone was bitten and suddenly spikes a very high fever. It is sometimes referred to as breakbone fever because of the severe muscle, bone, and joint pain it can cause.
