Why depletion layer decreases when the pn junction is reverse biased?

When the p-n junction is reverse biased, the barrier resistance is increased,so little or no current flows. The electrons are attracted by battery of +ve terminal and hence -ve ions look disappeared.Therfore the depletion layer decreases when the only junction is reverse biased.
