These fungal infections impair superficial layers of the skin, hair and nails. Dermatomycoses in ferrets are caused by Microsporum canis and Trichophyton  and failure to recognize its range of forms has led to confusion in taxonomy.  the result of inoculation of fungi in deeper layers of the skin and subcutaneous tissues.
