Why desert cooler gives cool air in summer

Desert coolers have cooling pads on its three walls which is continuously wetted by water (with the help of water pump). ... While crossing through cooling pads , this air transfers its heat to water on the pads thus the air becomes cooler and the water on the pads gets evaporated by consuming heat from air.

When water evaporates it needs heat called 'latent heat of 'evaporation' In the cooler the water that is sprayed over the pads when evaporates takes the required latent heat from the atmospheric air surrounding them which on losing its heat cools down.
