Why di plants that have rizomes survive heath fires?

A rhizome is an underground plant stem that stores starch and is capable of producing both the shoot and root systems of a new plant. A heath fire destroys the top part of the plant but the rhizome system deep underground is away from the heat and has the means of reproducing itself with new shoots and roots
