Substances with giant covalent structures have very high melting points, because a lot of strong covalent bonds must be broken

diamond and graphite are bonded with covalent bonds.these bonds are not very sronng outside but the internal force of attraction is very strong due to which it is not easy to melt these compounds and so they have high melting points.

hope it helps you.
