Each carbon atom is covalently bonded to four other carbon atoms. A lot of energy is needed to separate the atoms in diamond. This is because covalent bonds are strong, anddiamond contains very many covalent bonds. This makes diamond's melting point and boiling point very high.

it is made of pure carbon.but the reason why it has high melting point is that the bonds between the carbon atom is so strong and to break them we need high melting point..
