why diamond is more harder than graphite

Answer:

the reason is that,in diamond the carbon chains are strongly bonded together whereas in graphite it is very loosely bonded and we find less carbon chains in it.

Explanation:

in diamond the carbon is covalently bonded with 4 other carbon with very high bond energy

but in graphite C is attached with other three carbon atoms with comparably weeker bonds than diamond. So diamond is harder
