Why diamond is transparent and sodium is not for visible light?

every element has its different physical properties due to subatomic particles arrangement hence diamond is transparent bcz its atoms doesn't absorb light.

since u know there is different in no. of electrons and protons only in every atom.
so atoms are different in chemical and physical properties because of difference in subatomic particles.

diamond also shines due to total internal reflection diamond should be cut at 24° angle to TIR
