Akbar built Ibadat Khana at Fatehpur Sikri for discussions on religious matters. Scholars, philosophers, priests, missionaries, and religious leaders were invited here to hold discussions. These Dignities assembled in the Ibadat Khana and explained the principles and teachings of their respective religions.

Built in 1575 AD, its aim was to assemble spiritual leaders of different religions at one place to discuss the teachings of their respective religions. Most of these religious discussions were held in the evenings on Thursdays.

The Arabic word Ibadat  which literally means to enslave oneself (to God), when it is used as a religious term, refers to the ordinances of divine worship.
