Mr. Koch considered Einstein to be a very bright student and was helpful towards him. He believed that Einstein was ready to enter college or institute for the higher studies of Mathematics.

Answer:

Albert needed a reference from Mr. Koch to enter an Italian College or Institute. As Albert didn't like being in the school  so he decided to get a medical certificate from a doctor stating that he has a severe nervous breakdown and that he must not go back to the school.

"I'll to go to Italy ", said Albert "to Milan, where my parents are" ..... "I'll try to get into an Italian college or institute." "How can you without a diploma ?" "I'll ask my Mathematics teacher to give me something about my work, and perhaps that will be enough. I've learnt all the maths they teach at school, and a bit more," he added when  Dr. Weil looked doubtful.

"Mr. Koch gave Albert willingly the reference he wanted . "
