'Amanda 'the poem is about a girl named Amanda who is one of the teenager like us .In the poem she feels that even her basic freedom are been controled by her mom & she is restricted to enjoy her life to the fullest & is been manipulated all the time.

So she starts day dreaming & pictures (imagines) herself as a

mermaid that how good her life would be , She wants to be like an orphan with no one to control.This shows her deep desire to be independent.
