As , before there was not any type of culture of burning the dead bodies as the followers of Hinduism do.
And they had preservatives for preserving the dead body.
They thought and believed that there is another life after the death of a person so they provided all the needed things of daily life massaged the whole body so that it may be preserved, kept it in a box like structure called coffins and then buried in tombs as per their culture.
On average it took 20 years to build a tomb.
There are about 8 tombs of Egypt .
