According to a contemporary text, the Edicts of Ashoka, Ashoka converted to Buddhism because he “felt remorse on account of the conquest of Kalinga because, during the subjugation of a previously unconquered country, slaughter, death, and taking away captive of the people necessarily occur.”

The kalinga war was the turning point in the life of the Ashoka . Thousand of soldiers of deid and many thousand were badly wounded .
Ashoka was heavily moved by the sight such distraction . After kalinga , he gave up all forms of voilance . He also give a his policy of" Digvijaya " and embraced the policy of ' Dharmavijaya '.
