Ashoka gave up the war because he was moved by the violence and large number of people who were killed in Kalinga War.So he decided to gave up war.
2. One more reason was that Ashoka had conquered whole of India after Kalinga war. So he gave up war because he had nothing left in India to be conquered.

In the battle of kalinga war though ashoka won but he was horrified to see the blood flowing like a river
It is said that more than one lakh people were killed and 1.5 lakh were injured though numbers are exaggerated
By this he decided to give up war and decided to win over others by peace
