why did ashoka want to spread dhamma​

As u know that he was the first king in the world who gave up war, so he decided to spread dhamma throughout the world as he thought that if is violent to kill other persons and the families of these dead persons have to suffer a lot.

Mindless rituals and sacrifices were the norm during Ashoka’s period. People did not have respect for other religions. People ill treated servants and slaves. By introducing dhamma; Ashoka wanted to solve these problems.
