Aurangzeb, the sixth emperor of the Mughal empire, imprisoned his father, Shah Jahan, because in September 1657, when Shah Jahan fell ill, immediately his sons started making preparations for capturing the throne. As mughals had no rule of succession, with the fear of his brothers from capturing the throne on his father's death, he himself imprisoned Shah Jahan in 1658 and captured the throne before his brothers.
