In 1665 Aurangzeb sent Raja Jai Singh of Ambhar and Diler Khan to deal with Sivaji. The Mughal army entered the Maratha country and laid seige to Purandhar. The Maratha commander Marar Baji Despond offered a gallant resistance but he was killed in the battle field. The Mughal army also besiged Rajgarh, the chief seat of power of Sivaji. Ultimately, Sivaji was compelled to sign the treaty of Purandhar with Jai singh in June 1665.
