Why did Australia and New Zealand seem attractive to settlers?

Australia and New Zealand seemed attractive to European settlers because many poor Europeans were suffering during the Industrial Revolution when jobs paid little, and working conditions were very harsh. Places like Australia and New Zealand (as well as the United States and Canada) seemed appealing because there was a large amount of land available, to be settled and farmed, as well as opportunities such as gold rushes, to become wealthy. Millions of immigrants left Europe for these colonies in waves: the English at first, then later Irish, Germans, Italians, and many eastern Europeans.

Many poor Europeans were suffering during the Industrial Revolution when jobs paid little, and working conditions were very harsh.  Australia and New Zealand has a large amount of land avaliable so there was more chances of being wealthy. Thus Australia and New Zealand will be appealing to settlers.
