why did babur feel that he had the rights towards invading india?
Answers
Explanation:
Because when he had nowhere else to go a pretender to the throne of Delhi invited him for support.
Babur was born and raised in Central Asia in the Timurid dynasty. Timur’s descendants had been fighting each other ever since his death. At the age of eleven, Babur rose to the throne of Fergana. Then, as other Timurids at the time did, he focused on conquering their ancestral capital of Samarkand. He made three attempts at taking Samarkand and failed each time. While he was busy trying to take Samarkand, he was displaced from Fergana by his brother. Without a home, he spent some time at his maternal uncle’s capital in Tashkent. But having lost his sultanate and failed to take Samarkand as well, he was not happy at being a mere courtier in someone else’s palace.
So in 1504, an opportunity appeared towards south. The last Sultan of Kabul had died leaving an infant as heir and an unpopular usurper had taken the throne. He made his first move into South Asia and established himself as the Sultan of Kabul. This was the turning point in his life. He then modernized his army introducing gunpowder weapons including siege cannons.
At this point, Babur had a modernized army but he ruled a tiny state with limited resources. He had failed to take his ancestral lands towards the north after multiple attempts. To the west was the powerful Safavid Empire. But towards East, the Sultanate of Delhi had been under generations of decadence and infighting. In 1524, Daulat Khan Lodi, the governor of Punjab at the time, invited Babur to support his claim on the throne of Delhi which was ruled by Daulat’s cousin Ibrahim Lodi. This infighting among the Lodi dynasty gave the perfect pretext to Babur to expand his dominions. Though he would not regain his famous ancestor’s dominions in Central Asia, he would go on to establish an even powerful and prosperous empire in South Asia
Babur wanted to for an empire in India . He was invited by Daulat Khan Lodi a rebel of the lodhi dynasty to overthrow the king Ibrahim Lodi in 1524. Daulat Khan thought Babur would just overthrow Ibrahim and return back but Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi in the first battle of panipat in 1526 and formed Mughal Empire.
