- Once they all were part of Ottoman empire.
- But the growing nationalism in the minds of people of territories along with the disintegration of Ottoman empire made the area explosive.
- As the different territories started defining their identities the region became a region of intense conflict.
- Soon the area became the region of big power rivalry. There was conflict between colonising countries for military and naval might.
