Britain needed indigo because it produced a rich blue after dyeing the clothes. the existing markets like america and west indies collapsed.
Britain wanted a new market to cultivate indigo to fullfill its demand in britain so it started cultivation in Indai, as indian climatic conditions were favourable for indigo cultivation.

Answer:Britain needed indigo to dye cloth. Since the climate of England was not suitable for growing indigo, it imported indigo from other places, particularly in West Indies and North America. However, the collapse of the indigo plantations in these regions during the late eighteenth century, forced Britain to look for supplies from other areas.
