Colonizing India was contradiction, for what British were fighting in World War II!●British economy was longer able to financially maintain their military forces, and were hence incapable of containing the burgeoning freedom movements in their colonies.●Had there been no Hitler and no World War II, it most probably would have taken another 30 or more years for India and some of the other colonies to achieve independence.●Finally, “Do or Die scenario” for QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT, spread like wild fire!

hope it helps you

Explanation:

One reason why the British were reluctant to leave India was that they feared India would erupt into civil war between Muslims and Hindus. ... In 1947 the British withdrew from the area and it was partitioned into two independent countries - India (mostly Hindu) and Pakistan (mostly Muslim).
