Why did British missionaries fail in Indian?

Answer:

Periodically, experts of mainstream media come up with theories on why Christianity is a “failed project” in India. Recently, senior journalist and author Dilip Mandal put forth the argument that Christianity has no future in India and, therefore, there is no reason for the Rashtriya Swayamevak Sangh or the Vishva Hindu Parishad to spread false alarm or panic about the proselytising capacity of Christian missionaries. Mandal also points out that the Christian population in India is either static or dwindling.

Mandal is, obviously, not open to recognising the idea that conversion was not the main purpose of the educational, medical and social work of Christian missions in India. Compassion International, a Christian organisation mentioned by him, in a detailed statement pointed out that their sole purpose in India was social outreach. And no official complaint of conversion has been filed against organisations such as Compassion International.

Indians follow Sanatana Dharma that has huge pantheon of Gods that cater to each and every individual as per his/her liking. Adding one more God makes no difference! Hindus never really felt to forgo their thousands of years old faith system and follow illogical explanations of God and creation from strange people from Europe. In fact these European preachers were never taken seriously by most people and allowed them to propagate their religion the way they wanted. The European and Christian explanation of God, Creation, Jesus, Original & Eternal Sins, etc, actually never were given serious thought since they belied the common logic and explanations.

What’s the point of becoming a follower of Jesus when our own religious system gives out the same or even superior logic and philosophy? Why change own identity and adopt an “outlandish name” such as John, Joseph, Gregory, etc? Why cannot we accept Jesus as one of those thousands of God’s messengers sent to Earth from time to time since time immemorial?

The fact is that neither the European tried to understand the philosophy of India culture nor the Indians felt the need of it.
