YOUR ANSWER ✔️✔️

→why did British set up the forest department in India←

1) The British were worried about the felling of trees in India and in order to control the destruction of forests, they invited a German expert, Dietrich Brandis, for advice and made him the first inspector General of Forests in India.

2) Brandis introduced a proper system to manage the forests and hence, set up Indian Forest Service in 1864, and he also formulated the Indian Forest Act of 1865.

3) The Imperial Forest Research Institute was set up at Dehradun in 1906 which classified as reserved, protected and village forests. This department also taught Scientific forestry system which allowed one type of trees to be planted in a row known as plantation, thereby allowing different types of trees to be cut down.
